What To Do During A Pet Emergency
It’s stressful and overwhelming when your pet experiences any kind of veterinary emergency, but it’s important to remain as calm as possible and take action right away. Eagle Animal Hospital and our veterinary surgeons can help guide you during these situations; follow this step-by-step plan if you’re worried about your four-legged loved one:
Stay Composed
During a veterinary emergency, pet owners play a crucial role in helping their furry friends. Do your best to think clearly and take the following measures swiftly.
Assess the Situation
It’s important to determine the severity of the emergency before you do anything else. If your pet is in immediate danger or experiencing life-threatening symptoms, call Eagle Animal Hospital or an after-hour clinic for help. Please also call if your pet is in one of the situations detailed above.
Safely Transport Your Pet
As you contact the vet ahead of time to inform them of your arrival and the nature of the emergency, securely and safely move your pet to your vehicle. While en route, it's essential to keep your pet as comfortable as possible. Check their vital signs and apply first aid if necessary.
Give The Vet Relevant Information
It’s important to give pet wellness center staff members everything they need to know about the pet patient so they can administer proper care. Tell them about your pet’s breed, age, symptoms, medical history, current symptoms, and recent events that may have led to the emergency.
