From an early age, Dr. Read knew that his calling was to help and care for animals in need. His journey towards becoming a veterinarian began during a memorable Boy Scout outing, where he witnessed a veterinarian demonstrating how the heart worked using a clever door-opening exercise. It was in that moment that his passion for veterinary medicine was ignited, and he knew that he wanted to dedicate his life to the well-being of animals.

As a high school student in Savannah, MO, Dr. Read eagerly volunteered at a local clinic, where he started by cleaning kennels and walking dogs. His dedication and enthusiasm were quickly recognized, and he worked his way up to become a veterinary assistant while pursuing his undergraduate studies in biology and chemistry at Missouri Western State University. In 1997, he successfully completed his undergraduate studies, laying the foundation for his future veterinary career. In 2001, he proudly earned his doctorate of veterinary medicine at the University of Missouri's College of Veterinary Medicine, solidifying his expertise and embarking on a remarkable journey as a veterinarian.

After graduation, Dr. Read returned to his hometown to practice at a clinic in St. Joseph, MO, where he honed his skills for five years. In August 2006, he joined the esteemed team at Eagle Animal Hospital & Pet Resort, where he continues to make a positive impact on the lives of countless animals and their devoted owners.

Dr. Read is a respected member of several professional associations, including the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, and the Kansas City Veterinary Medical Association. He remains committed to staying at the forefront of advancements in veterinary medicine, particularly in the fields of dentistry and surgery.

With his extensive experience and expertise, Dr. Read is available at Eagle Animal Hospital to perform advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. His proficiency includes complex procedures such as TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgeries, Patellar luxation repair, fracture repair. Additionally, he is skilled in other advanced surgeries and performing minimally invasive procedures using laparoscopy or endoscopy, providing pets with less invasive and faster recovery options.

In his free time, Dr. Read enjoys attending sporting events, cheering on his children in their own athletic pursuits, and indulging in the cinematic world or experimenting with new recipes.
